Michael Enright is making headlines around the country as the man who stabbed a Muslim cab driver in NYC.
But it turns out that Michael Enright is also a fan of the book Mass Casualties by military veteran Michael Anthony.
According to an article in the New York Times, Michael Enright approached Michael Anthony a year ago to discuss ways to help returning soldiers struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder. Michael Enright also mentioned his desire to make a film out of Mass Casualties, which he had become a fan of after reading.
According to the New York Times, Michael Enright wrote:
‘I would like to extend to you my greatest compliments on such a work so soon after your life-changing experience.’
Following many email and phone coversations, Michael Anthony last heard from Michael Enright a few weeks ago. Both Michael Anthony and those close to Michael Enright were shocked by the allegations. In a recent blog post, Michael Anthony wrote,
I think the crazy thing is that Enright and I had plenty of conversations through email and the telephone. And in all our conversations, there was zero hint of any bigotry or prejudice. One of the man things we talked about, when we talked, was about how to help veterans with PTSD.
The allegations come at a time when racial tensions are running high. According to the NY Times article,
The attack has struck a chord in a city where tensions over a planned mosque two blocks from ground zero have escalated into a national debate, though neither Mr. Sharif — who met with Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at City Hall on Thursday — nor Mr. Enright had indicated to the police that the issue had anything to do with the attack.
