It’s time for your sweet tooth to do something good for the world! On Saturday, April 2nd, 2011, bakeries around the country will be hosting bake sales to raise money for survivors of the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear crisis in Japan.
Last year, Bay Area Chef Samin Nosrat founded the Bake Sale for Haiti–and raised $23,000 just from sales in her area! Now she’s sent out a call for bakeries across the country to join in the Bakesale for Japan, and twenty-one have already responded. The proceeds will benefit PeaceWinds Japan, an NGO that works to promote disaster awareness, readiness, and relief in Asian Pacific countries.
If you’re in the Boston area and want to pitch in, head over to Ula Cafe (map) from 10am-2pm to grab something scrumptious at BOS Bakesale for Japan. Until then, check out the BOS Bakesale Twitter feed to learn more, get involved, and spread the word!
Not in Boston? No worries! Samin is updating the list of participating bakeries daily, so check her blog to see if your city is listed. If you’re interested in organizing, shoot her an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
